Prime Video será el hogar de streaming para el anime The Ghost in the Shell de Science Saru. Aunque hemos conocido el esperado proyecto de anime desde 2024, fue solo esta semana, durante Prime Video Presents: International Originals, que supimos dónde se emitiría el anime.
Prime Video compite con Crunchyroll y Netflix para convertirse en “el destino preferente para el contenido de anime a nivel mundial,” y la adquisición de los derechos de transmisión de The Ghost in the Shell es una de las vías para lograr ese objetivo.
Durante la primera edición en línea de Prime Video Presents: International Originals, el vicepresidente de Prime Video para APAC y ANZ, Gaurav Gandhi, describió The Ghost in the Shell como “la obra de ciencia ficción japonesa más influyente de todos los tiempos.”
El primer gran proyecto de anime de Ghost in the Shell desde el Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 de Netflix, The Ghost in the Shell de Science Saru es una nueva adaptación del manga original escrito e ilustrado por Masamune Shirow. Se espera que la serie ofrezca una nueva interpretación de los temas cyberpunk, explorando un futuro en el que los límites entre lo humano y la máquina se desdibujan.
El manga original fue serializado en la Young Magazine de Kodansha desde abril de 1989 hasta noviembre de 1990. Una edición en inglés, disponible a través de Kodansha, describe la historia como “una epopeya distópica de política, tecnología y metafísica.”
El manga ha originado múltiples adaptaciones en cine y televisión. La más celebrada sigue siendo la película de anime icónica de 1995 de Production I.G., Ghost in the Shell, seguida por su secuela de 2004 Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.
La franquicia se expandió posteriormente a la televisión con Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, que debutó en 2002, y más recientemente con Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 de Netflix. Una adaptación de acción real de Hollywood, dirigida por Rupert Sanders y protagonizada por Scarlett Johansson, se estrenó en 2017.

«Anime adaptation-wise, this new THE GHOST IN THE SHELL marks the fourth version following those by Oshii, Kamiyama, and Kise,» series creator Shirow Masamune said back in April 2025. «Alternatively, if we separate GHOST IN THE SHELL and Innocence, categorize the S.A.C. series into Seasons 1, 2, and Solid State Society, divide ARISE into its own series along with The New Movie, and split SAC_2045 into Seasons 1 and 2, this would be the tenth adaptation overall.»
«Considering the shift in production staff, one could even consider this the first installment of a second generation,» he continued. «The original manga is quite old, so I ask for your understanding on that point (sorry!). That said, I sincerely hope this will once again be an enjoyable visual experience in some form.»
The Ghost in the Shell el anime está previsto para su estreno este julio de 2026. Prime Video posee derechos de transmisión a nivel mundial, excepto en Rusia y China.
